ECUs and control modules
Scanner says ‘no communication with module’. Does that mean the ECU is dead?
What this lesson covers
CORE TEACHING ECU permanent power; ignition/wake feeds; grounds; CAN/LIN; inputs/outputs; internal protection; module replacement as last step. PRACTICAL DEMONSTRATIONS AND TESTS Check all powers/grounds loaded; network pins; scan topology; wake/ignition feed; output command. ADVANCED / SCAN TOOL LAYER Scope CAN at module; check CAN resistance/voltage; compare communication before/after unplugging suspect node. KEY DIAGNOSTIC QUESTIONS Is the module powered? Grounded? Awake? Connected to network? Only then: is the module itself faulty? MUST-COVER CHECKPOINTS All permanent feeds; ignition/wake feeds; all grounds under load; network physical layer; scan topology; inputs/outputs; only then condemn module.
