Automotive Ethernet & DoIP — modern ADAS and gateway networks

Camera/radar/central gateway modules communicate at far higher data rates than classic CAN. How do you recognise Automotive Ethernet and avoid diagnosing it like a normal CAN pair?

What this lesson covers

CORE TEACHING 100BASE-T1/1000BASE-T1 concept; single twisted pair full-duplex physical layer; Ethernet switches/gateways; IP addressing at a practical level; DoIP diagnostics; use in ADAS, cameras, infotainment and central compute; cable/connector integrity; why ordinary CAN resistance/voltage rules do not transfer; secure gateways and topology awareness. PRACTICAL DEMONSTRATIONS AND TESTS Identify an Ethernet link from wiring data/topology; inspect twisted pair and connector; use scan tool/DoIP connection where supported; demonstrate loss of link by disconnecting training cable; discuss specialist physical-layer/network testers rather than random probing. ADVANCED / SCAN TOOL LAYER DoIP scan session; topology; gateway status; specialist Ethernet testing/reference capture if available. Avoid implying a normal multimeter can fully validate Ethernet. KEY DIAGNOSTIC QUESTIONS Is the link present? Is the gateway routing traffic? Is the fault physical cabling, switch/gateway, security access or the end module? MUST-COVER CHECKPOINTS Recognise Ethernet link; map gateway/switch/end node; prove power/ground; check link/DoIP session; inspect pair/connectors; distinguish physical-link from routing/security fault.
