Testing a three-wire sensor
Fuel rail pressure code. Is the sensor wrong, is its 5 V missing, or is the signal wire lying?
What this lesson covers
CORE TEACHING Exact test sequence; 5 V reference loading; ground quality; expected signal range; signal shorts/open circuits. PRACTICAL DEMONSTRATIONS AND TESTS Back-probe 5 V; sensor ground; signal; wiggle harness; compare mechanical condition/data; unplug sensor. ADVANCED / SCAN TOOL LAYER Scope slow and fast signal changes; compare voltage trace with scan data. KEY DIAGNOSTIC QUESTIONS Is reference stable? Ground stable? Signal responsive? Does signal reach ECU unchanged? MUST-COVER CHECKPOINTS Identify sensor technology; supply/ground if applicable; expected signal type; physical stimulus; scan comparison; scope if time-varying; wiring-to-ECU proof.
